John Brueggemann

President

We were living in Orlando, FL when the company I was working for decided I needed to be in Dallas, Texas.  During the "Family Meeting" to inform the kids we would be relocating, my oldest son stated he would move with us if he got a dirt bike.  He was 8.  While living in Dallas we ended up with four dirt bikes (3 boys and me) and had a blast on the weekends.  Texas is a great place for off road.

I started riding street bikes when I moved back to Jacksonville and my brother-in-law loaned me his Suzuki DR650.  I bought a r850r and started commuting to work.  I Joined BMWMOA which led me to BMWNEF.  I bought a 2006 1200RT from Ray King and started taking longer rides.  Life it worth living on two wheels.

Vice President

I always wanted to ride since I was a teenager but didn't actually get to it until later in life after becoming an empty nester.  In 2010 a job change took me from Boston to Ottawa in Ontario, Canada which presented the perfect opportunity to learn to ride.  BMW motorcycles were something that I was always interested in, and my first bike was a K1300GT.  Having only a MSF course behind me and little experience, I rode very carefully and joined the BMW club of Ottawa. The club was welcoming new members, and I was soon being coached by more experienced riders and gradually gained more experience and confidence.

Along the way I discovered the R1200GSA and traded in my K1300 for a then new LC R1200 GSA.  Beig 6 '6" tall I found the bike to be a perfect fit for me and I enjoyed riding it over long distances.

I returned back to Boston in 2015 but wasn't enjoying the riding in the more congested traffic environment so sold the bike.

My wife Ru and I moved from Boston to Ponte Vedra in late 2019 after my retirement.  Soon after Covid started, I got the urge to ride again, and found a great deal on a lightly used 2015 R1200 GSA.  I sought out the local BMW club, found and joined BMWNEF and started participating in some of the club rides. Along the way, in the midst of Covid I attended the two day off - road BMW school in South Carolina.  This came in useful, because in the summer of 2022 I completed the Coast-to-Coast Iron Butt Ride from Key West to Prudhoe Bay and back with my brother-in-law. I found the 500 miles of Dalton Highway from Fairbanks to Deadhorse to be challenging and treacherous in places but felt that I was well prepared with the previous off- road training.

I've  enjoyed in  participating in the BMWNEF rides and activities and look forward to riding more and working with the leadership team to serve the club member's needs.

MYRON BEACHY

Treasurer

My dad loved to ride and rarely left home on his bike without me. At fourteen I got my endorsement and purchased my first motorcycle, a 250 Yamaha Virago. Growing up in Tennessee the mountains were always close and next curvy backroad was only a short straight stretch away. I moved to Florida for a job opportunity and started riding with Todd Sandlin. After attending a few club meetings and rides I joined BMWNEF and am looking forward to contributing to the club in any way I can.

Bill Botkin

Past President

I started riding motorcycles secretly in High School.  My father was a doctor and hated motorcycles.  The first motorcycle I purchased was a 1949 Pan Head Harley.  Two days later it was disassembled and headed for the chrome and paint shop.  About a month later, I had my very own "Chopper".  Motorcycle riding went on the back burner as I spent 8 years in the Marine Corps flying helicopters and being an instructor pilot in the Pensacola area.  I left the Marine Corps in search of a flying career and eventually ended up at American Airlines.  I retired from American in 2008.  My wife Ginny and I chased grandsons around Florida and finally settled in Yulee in 2010.  Past president and past secretary Jim and Millie Stevenson introduced me to BMWNEF.  At the time I was riding a 2005 LT, AKA, Light Truck.  Jim Stevenson, Valerie and Bill Robinson led me on my first cross country ride to the BMWMOA National Rally in Bend, Oregon.  I was hooked.

This is my 3rd term as President of the BMWNEF.  I'm sure it will be just as enjoyable and rewarding as the first two terms.  We have an excellent team on the EC.  We will do our best to plan and execute interesting rides, events and Winter Rally.  Now, Get Out There and Ride!

Ride Safely,
Bill
