President's Letter 08 2024

July 28th, 2024

It’s been a very busy month even with the heat of summer.  Looks like the afternoon thunderstorms have finally settled in to maintain our high humidity status.  I know my bike rides start earlier to beat the heat.

The July Monthly Meeting was very well attended and we received several reports from club events, National Rally rides, personal rides and the ABC Challenge progress.  If you haven’t been to a meeting lately, our next one is August 4th and should be just a fun.  There will be a ride after the meeting as well as breakfast prior to as well.

Jim Quinn led a ride to Hastings Florida and Lena’s Restaurant that was well attended on July 16th.  This was with the HMS group and fun and enjoyable.

Chris Terajewicz led an impressive ride down to Yankeetown Florida.  This was to gather some of the harder letters for the ABC Challenge.  Namely “Y” and “Z”.  This challenge has been fun as I’ve been to many locations in Florida I would not have gone to otherwise.  Yankeetown is an excellent example of this.  This is a beautiful community along the banks of the Withlacoochee River.  The restaurant was excellent and picturesque located on the bank of the river.  We had our meal while watching some of the local fishing boats tie up on the pier and take photos of the crews with their catches of the day.  To this point, the ride on Florida’s back roads were well picked by Chris the temperature stayed ‘pleasant’.  Five of us continued on to Zepherhills to capture the “Z”.  Yeah, by then it was hot, but we did have a good time.  If you haven’t started the Challenge yet, there is still plenty of time.  The contest runs through the end of September.

On August 3rd, Bill Botkin has designed a south Georgia loop ride to capture some more of the alphabet.  This will be an excellent opportunity to capture more of the letters including the letter “Q”.  Don’t miss out.

We have our Q3 social on August 9th.  This will be at Whitey’s Fish Camp.  Details are on the Club’s Website.  Then on August 29th there is the BMWRA Rally in Fryeburg Maine.  Several members are planning on attending this rally.  If you haven’t firmed up your travel arrangements, plan to attend the August 4th meeting.  There will be some discussion on a group ride or possibly pairing up with other riders.

That’s it for now. So ride safe out there, stay hydrated, and pull over on the longer rides in a nice shady spot and enjoy this beautiful world we have been given to enjoy.
