TWO TRIP

September 26-29, 2019

First things first, we are scheduled for September 24-27, 2020 for our annual (2020) Suches, TWO Motorcycle Resort Trip.   Only a few cabins remain and some rooms in the lodge.  Follow this link to get your reservations for 2020:

Members started arriving Thursday afternoon for the 2019 TWO North Georgia trip.  The forecast was back and forth as to rain.  We were lucky on the way up, no rain and only short delays through Atlanta.

Those on hand all pitched in to unload and set up pop-up tents, tables and our field kitchen.  Thursday night’s dinner is usually an “every man and woman for themselves” affair.  However, we were treated to an excellent fully cooked and frozen spaghetti dinner provided by Jeanette Meeker.  We warmed the spaghetti in a larger pan of hot water and “wolfed it down”.  Just like the Ginsu Knife commercial we weren’t done enjoying Jeanette’s culinary skills.  She also had included her delicious lemon bread as a desert treat.

During our Thursday dinner was the only time we experienced any substantial rain fall.  We were comfortably sheltered under our pop-ups.  As one can see our “millennial's” were busy on their phones!!!

Friday morning broke clear and dry with the promise of an excellent riding day.  Members took off in small groups or solo to explore the great roads of North Georgia and North Carolina.

We gathered back at “Camping Central” and prepared the traditional TWO Friday evening Chili and Cornbread meal.  Jeff Tetzel, co-cook, and me, got to work chopping onions and browning hamburger for the chili.  We were expertly assisted by CJ Winkle who along with Mike Sadler had also served as a logistics mule bringing coolers and cookware.

Every night following kitchen clean up, professionally handled by Chief Sanitation Engineer CJ Winkle, we retired to the campfire.  Ed Seitz was our main pyrotechnic expert.

Saturday Fred Veator led us on a wonderful ride from TWO to the Hole-in-the-Wall restaurant in Blairsville, Ga.  The route took us in to North Carolina and back into Georgia, up to Bell Mountain (more on that later) and along the Hiawassee River.

The road to Bell Mountain Park is Shake Rag Road, gotta’ love those names,.  Fred briefed us that it was curvy and steep.  Fred being the master of understatement neglected to mention the 110 degree turns coupled with the 25-30% uphill grade!!  In his defense he did tell us to keep our spacing and DON”T STOP!  We all succeeded in making the ascent with a few miles worn off our clutches from feathering a restart at one radical turn. We had one section along the Hiawassee River bottom which was hard packed dirt and gravel.  All negotiated it safely but very dusty.

Saturdays ride was a great experience for all.  We being “flatlanders” really enjoy getting back into the twisties for a few days.  None of us left TWO with square tires.

Saturday night’s dinner is a Club sponsored affair.  Twenty of our members took advantage of this benefit and joined us for dinner.  TWO restaurant staff did not disappoint.  We enjoyed an excellent BBQ dinner and desserts.

Special thanks to Jeff Tetzel, CJ Winkle, Mike Sadler, Jeanette and Larry Meeker and Ed Seitz for their assistance in preparing, cooking, cleaning up and campfire. This is what makes BMWNEF a great organization!

Please take advantage of this trip in 2020.  Go to the TWO site and make a reservation.

Ride Safely,
